This Is Real Life: The Tale of a DC Extended Happy Hour Crawl

What does a night out on the town look like with the Work Hard, Play Harder Pass? Well, last night, we popped into three bars found on the Happied app for an Extended Happy Hour Crawl. (Whew, thatʼs a mouthful!) Ranging from wine to cocktails as well as nibbles to “grown-up” snacks, we definitely covered all of our bases – all on happy hour until 9pm!

If you enjoy drinking wine, actually really, really good wine, then our first stop, Dio Wine Bar,  may be for you. Warm, cozy, and intimate the space is an ideal spot to school your friends on how much you know about the viticulture industry without sounding like a snob. With sustainable selections for those who are interested, in addition to, the tastiest deviled eggs on the block, pop-in and say hi before the bar gets too packed.

Next, head down a few blocks to Sospeso with a large bay window for those who are lucky enough to snag a seat. (Perfect for people watching may we add.) The menu has great selections of meats, dips, and breads to keep you full. Crispy potatoes drizzled in saffron oil and falafel may be a go-to but make sure to try the grilled octopus diavolo. Delicately placed upon a mound of warm chickpeas, tender, charred octopus sits surrounded by a spicy, Calabrian chili sauce. It’s so, so good.

Our crawl had taken us in the ninth hour, we hailed a cab over to NoMa where behind a secret door, a beautiful oasis at O-Ku Sushi awaits. As a relative new comer to the DC sushi scene, O-Ku definitely holds its own. Ingredients like hibiscus, passion fruit, and basil grace the cocktail menu with some of the freshest seafood in town to savor.
