Cozy AF: Warm Up With These Fall Happy Hours

Cuffing and cuddling season AKA fall is upon us. Whether you want to snuggle up with your significant other over cocktails, hang with your crew by an outdoor fire-pit for sweater weather, or ride the happy hour train solo with a wine flight, our fall happy hour guide has a spot for you. Check the list for our favorites of the season and get your autumnal (we love that word) happy hour plans going!

1. O-Ku Sushi | 1274 5th St NE

What’s black and gold and sultry all over? A late night happy hour at O-Ku! A hidden gem, this Union Market newcomer is serving up insanely fresh sushi and hand shaken cocktails on its late night menu (selections for $3 off).

Let’s talk about these vibes though. The dark interior with golden amber highlights is autumn perfection. Bring your boo here for late-night date night or grab your crew for an upscale girls’ night out.

2. Pursuit Wine Bar | 1421 H St NE

Do you see this wine flight? It speaks for itself, but we’ll fill in the gaps for you – GET.IT. Each day, Pursuit Wine Bar offers a vibrant selection of wines for you to choose from to build your own Standby Wine Flight.

From reds to whites to rose and even a blue sparkler, you’re sure to find something to fit your fancy. The red brick interior screams fall goodness and makes this a perfect pick for an evening out. Grab some meatballs on happy hour and sink into the season.

3. Midlands Beer Garden | 3333 Georgia Ave NW

Do you want to be inside? Or outside? Feeling indecisive? You’re in luck! Head to Midlands Beer Garden in Park View where you can be inside AND outside. They have lots of beer– 22 drafts! They have games– Free-to-play pool table, darts, and corn hole! Their outdoor area has firepits, heaters, and even blankets to keep you toasty no matter how much that temperature dips.

The happy hour deal is SOLID with buy one, get one FREE drinks on draft beers (did we mention there are 22 drafts) and mixed drinks. For food, there are some solid options like buff chick nachos and pulled pork sammie (not on happy hour, but still delish). OR, you can BYO food! Yes, your Trader Joe’s spread has a new location to visit 😉 or UberEats right on over. PLUS bring your pup– the outdoor space is dog-friendly!

4. Dino’s Grotto | 1914 19th St NW

Dino’s Grotto has a brick clad basement bar happy hour that brings all the warm vibes indoors. Grab an $8 signature cocktail, including a selection of Negronis, to beat any cold weather blues with a little tasty booze. You can also snag a charcuterie board for a cool 10 bucks full of some of Dino’s house made meats. Let your bartender choose your spread and try something out of the box.

5. Takoda | 715 Florida Ave NW

Takoda’s vibe is one of our favs. The decor is inviting, light & airy, complete with Edison lights to solidify the coziness. On the chillier days, Takoda’s fab rooftop turns into a glass-enclosed space— giving you all the views without feeling the cold weather!

Happy hour specials have food and drinks ranging from $4-$8. A PBR or Budlight will run you $4; mixed drink for $5; or a glass of house wine for $6. Pair those specials with $6 parmesan rosemary tots and buffalo wings, and you have yourself the perfect happy hour nosh!   

Pro tip: Go to HH on a Thursday, when bottles of wine at 50% off!

6. La Vie | 88 District Square SW 5th floor

When it starts to get a bit too frigid to sit outside (we know, we all miss patio weather), snag a seat at La Vie’s happy hour for a view of the river without being thrust into the windy water temps. This glam, upscale spot recently revamped their HH menu to include a fried oyster slider and frose, so you can really reminisce on the warmer days. You can also snag a frozen Mexican mule with El Silencio mezcal because well… Mezcal!

Pro-tip: La Vie is one of the only spots on the Wharf to offer HH until 7p (because who can get to HH by 6p?), so soak up that extra hour in style.

7. Legal Sea Foods | 704 7th St NW

Fall is also the start of oyster season, so obvi a reason to grab the supa-fresh oysters at Legal for half-off. And don’t let the big name deter you, there’s plenty of charm at this seafood bar and even more top-notch HH nosh. Prime example – the Crab Toast with a premium lump crab spread. Get your apple-picking fix early and grab the Apple Highball, a potent little mix of Four Roses Bourbon, Bulleit Rye, sparkling apple cider and Angostura bitters for a smooth $6.95.

8. Fare Well | 406 H St NE

We often think of Vegan eats as fuel for our summer bodies. But you know what they say, summer bodies are made in the winter. Start early and get in here for fall! This H Street cutie has some of the best priced premium rail drinks (including RR’s Civic Vodka) and local beers at just $5 a pop.

While there’s technically no food on HH, you can get your fill of inventive vegan small plates like Seitan Wings for just 10 bucks. Did we mention, they also make a mean Impossible Burger?

9. Teddy and the Bully Bar | 1200 19th St NW

This is your go-to spot for warm and cozy cocktails. There are no less than 4 house-made barrel aged cocktails on HH for a smooth $10 a pop. Talk about a soothing boozy beverage! Grab one after work and chill out in the inviting oak-filed bar and take in the Autumnal vibes.  Ever more, there’s a full array of brews for $6, wines for $9, and a great lil list of bar bites.

10. Supra | 1205 11th St NW

The eats at Supra will warm your soul. This spots serves up a slew of inventive Georgian fare on HH. Try the Kaputi Roll – a nod to DC’s hometown halfsmoke (a house-made pork & beef sausage, ajika ketchup, pickles, jonjoli) for $5, or share a Khachapuri (a classic stuffed cheese bread). There’s also a bevy of beverages to choose from, including $5 wines and $6 Georgian cocktails. You’ll immediately get warm and welcoming feels when you walk into Supra, and after a few bites of the uber satisfying fare you’ll get why this is a perf pick for your fall HH list.
