When you think of an amazing beer Happy Hour, one of two things come to mind: a Happy Hour with a lengthy beer selection filled with unique and craft brews, or a Happy Hour with the lowest prices on your standard cold ones (Bud Light, Coors, Natty Boh—doesn’t matter as long as it’s cheap!). No matter which kind of beer Happy Hour you prefer, we’ve got you covered! Read on for the best Beer Happy Hours in DC, both the craft favorites and your cheapy cheaps.
Part 1: The Best Local/Unique/Craft Beer Happy Hours
Jack Rose is known for its expansive whiskey collection (over 2,000 bottles on the wall at all times), but did you know they have 20 beers on draft, AND that all of those drafts are $2 off during happy hour?! What! This is a gem-of-a-find inside a trendy, upscale bar. The majority of their beer pints are $7 at full price, making them a very attractive $5 during happy hour. Lots of local representation—Hellbender Sunbreaker (DC); Atlas Brew Works Coffee Common (DC); Lickinghole Creek Three Chopt Tripel (VA); Flying Dog Lucky SOB (MD); Devil’s Backbone Virginia Lager (VA), and even more. With a happy hour time that extends to 7:30pm, you have some extra time to relish a beer (or two..or three..) in the swanky digs. Pro Tip: Mac & cheese bites, shishito Peppers, & BLT sliders are all offered on happy hour as well. Get’em!
This Adams Morgan hotspot also made our list for Best Spring Happy Hours in DC (have you seen that open-air terrace?!) and Best Adams Morgan Happy Hours. Basically, this spot is a Happy Hour home-run.

Whether you’re in Chinatown or Dupont Circle, City Tap House has you covered. Both locations boast an extensive beer selection. Happy hour beers rotate frequently, but generally include a $4 craft can and about 10 draft beer each for $5, including local options. Both City Tap House locations have a large bar as well as multiple high-top tables in the bar area for happy hour, making it a great option for groups. Coworkers? Friends? Sports teammates? Bring ‘em all!

The Blaguard makes it on both the craft beer happy hour list, and the cheap one. It’s your casual, come-as-you-are, neighborhood bar. The service is pub-style—meaning there are no waiters nor waitresses; rather, everyone orders at the bar. Find yourself a table, take a look over the food and drink menus to decide what you’d like to order, and then approach the bar. When you do, you’ll see that there is an impressive number of beer taps, especially considering the smaller size of the venue.
All the premium drafts are a mere $4.50 during happy hour! The exact beers on tap rotate, but regardless many are usually local, including Atlas Brew Works, DC Brau, Flying Dog, Port City, & Right Proper Brewing Company—to name a few. And with a happy hour that goes until 8pm, you can really relax while chatting with friends or watching sports on one of their tvs. Pro Tip: Order some wings to go with those brews! The wings are 6 for $4, or 12 for 7 bucks!

- Iron Horse Tap Room | 507 7th Street NW | Monday – Friday, 4:00-8:00pm; Saturday 3:00-8:00pm; Sunday 5:00-8:00pm
A happy hour that’s offered 7 days a week, until 8pm, and is a bar with arcade games?! I’m in. Iron Horse is another come-as-you-are bar. Walk in on the ground floor and you’ll see a long bar along the lefthand side with a few high-top tables scattered about. Walk straight in from the door and you’ll be able to take a staircase down to the basement level, which is complete with another long bar, some more high-tops, and GAMES. There’s Skeeball, Big Buck Hunter, Shuffleboard and more! Oh right, and the beer. All drafts are $2 off during happy hour, the you’ll have your choice of 20+ drafts. There are local & unique beers (like the Solace/Oceleot Brewery collaboration beer– Maibock Music) as well as the classics you know and love (sometimes you just want a Bud Light). The beers are constantly changing—you can see the most current list on their website.

Pizza & beer. Is there a more American classic combination? Mellow Mushroom has, in fact, a mellow yet inviting environment throughout each of the 3 levels, including the spacious roof deck. Each of their 24 draft beers are $2 off during happy hour, throughout the whole place! With the weather getting warmer (it is Spring after all), how does a frosty cold one sitting atop the roof sound? Perfect? Perfect.
Pro Tip: End your week with Mellow Mushrooms happy hour—all night on the 2nd floor on Fridays!

Part 2: Cheapest Beer Happy Hours, for when you just want a cold one.
What if I told you the when you buy one drink, you get your second drink absolutely free. FREE?! Nothing in life is free. Except at DC Reynold’s for happy hour. Believe it. The friendly bar will serve you your first drink (i.e. beer) and then bring you your 2nd drink, sometimes just because they notice drink #1 is getting low! It doesn’t’ need to be the same beer twice, if can be something different.
Pro Tip: Their food is quite good! Order the deviled eggs or jerk chicken sandwich for some noms with those 2+ beers.

Unpretentious, U Street happy hour hub. Some would say dive bar, I’d say it’s a cross between divey and local hangout. Happy hour beers are straight forward– $3.50 for PBR, Bud, Bud Light, or Coors Light. ‘nough said.
Pro Tip: Enjoy your beers with Sloppy Mama’s BBQ—served up from the Solly’s kitchen. Poutine, anyone?

We’ve talked a bit about The Blaguard—the no-frills bar with the extensive $4.50 draft beer offerings. But what if you want the cheaper option? $2.50? Chyeah, that’ll do. Get tallboy PBRs for $2.50, and Bud Night or Natty Boh for $3. You’ll be able to get 2 beers and a dozen wings for the price of one average DC cocktail!
The Big Hunt is a funky hidden haunt. The ceilings are low. The lighting is dim. There are 3 levels. The vibe is chill. The beers? They have over 30 beers on tap! Now THAT’S a beer list. If happy hour deals are what you’re after, you have the following options, each for $3.50: Bad Ass Amber Bock, Big Ass Wheat, Hard Ass IPA, Lights Ass Brew, and PBR.
Pro Tip: The Hunt has Underground Comedy shows Wednesday-Saturdays, so stick around! Who doesn’t love a good laugh?

Want to watch some sports? Or have a dinner reservation on U street that you’re early for? The Prospect is a sports bar with lots of TVs. The two-level hotspot is conveniently located in the U Street / 14th Street area amidst lots of other bars and restaurants. All draft beers are ½ priced during happy hour. Their drafts cover the basics—Yuengling, Allagash White, and Guinness are each $3 ($6 at full price), and Miller Lite is a meager $2.75 (full price: $5.50)!
